Teidah Has Waited Long Enough for Love — Will You Become Her Sponsor?
She survived abandonment, loneliness, and fear. All Teidah wants now is a safe place where she can finally feel protected.
Meet Teidah — a gentle, quiet dog whose life has been marked by loss and uncertainty, yet who continues to hope that someday a kind human will give her the chance she deserves.
Teidah came to the “Big Heart” shelter near Kyiv in the spring of 2021. Before that, she lived in a small rural shelter together with her siblings. It was the only world she knew.
Then, everything suddenly changed.
The owner of the shelter unexpectedly passed away, and the dogs were left completely alone. Teidah and the other animals found themselves in an empty yard beside an abandoned house, with no one to care for them.
For months, they had to survive by themselves.
There was no warm human hand to comfort them. No one to make sure they had enough food. No one to protect them from the dangers around them. The dogs could not understand why the people they once depended on had disappeared.
They simply had to survive.
Teidah did survive — but those months of loneliness and fear changed her deeply.
Today, she finds it extremely difficult to trust people. She has never truly learned what human kindness feels like. When someone reaches out to touch her, her body becomes tense and her first instinct is to escape.
But there is something very important to understand about Teidah.
She is not aggressive.
Quite the opposite.
Teidah is a calm, balanced, gentle dog who gets along well with other animals. She doesn’t look for conflicts and doesn’t cause trouble. She simply feels frightened around people because, for much of her life, people have not been a source of safety for her.
Imagine being afraid of the very beings who are supposed to protect you.
That is Teidah’s reality.
And then came another devastating chapter.
When Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Teidah once again had to leave everything familiar behind. To keep her safe, she was evacuated from the shelter near Kyiv to our kennel near the Polish border. Later, she was moved again to paid temporary housing.
Once again, her world changed.
Once again, she had no choice but to trust that the people around her would keep her safe.
Thankfully, our team never gave up on her.
We continue to care for Teidah and provide her with the food, shelter, veterinary care, and protection she needs. But we also know that dogs like Teidah often need something more — time, patience, understanding, and one special person who is willing to believe in them.
We don’t know how long it will take for Teidah to trust a human.
We don’t know whether she will ever become the kind of dog who happily runs into someone’s arms.
And that’s okay.
She doesn’t have to change overnight.
She simply deserves someone who will accept her exactly as she is.
Until that person comes along, we want Teidah to know that she is not forgotten.
She deserves a safe place to sleep.
She deserves regular meals.
She deserves medical care when she needs it.
She deserves protection from the dangers she has already experienced.
And most of all, she deserves to finally know that she is safe.
