Why Foster a Ukrainian Dog From Transform a Street Dog?
Transform a Street Dog is committed to helping Ukrainian street dogs who have many odds stacked against them. A lack of shelters & sterilization programs has led to a large population of stray animals. Street dogs face the basic dangers, plus the risk of being poisoned by an unofficial group called “dog hunters.”
Most “foster” homes in Ukraine are actually for-profit home businesses called “perederzhkas.” Additionally, it is not very popular to adopt mixed-breed dogs or to foster dogs. Combined with the fact that Ukraine is experiencing political & financial turmoil, the result is very little hope for dogs on the streets & at outdoor shelters.
Zita was found in a basket at city park – her future was uncertain.
Transform a Street Dog found her a foster home where she got cleaned up and quickly found her forever family; she is now called “Pepper.”
We support rescue groups with funding for sterilization, medical care, food, temporary housing & local adoption ads. We send volunteers to shelters to socialize dogs & increase their chances for adoption. Despite these efforts, due to the lack of ready families, many dogs suffer without much chance of ever being adopted.
Once a dog is already living in a home, this greatly increases their chances of being adopted. We need your help to give our dogs a safe place to stay where they can learn to trust humans again and learn to live in a home.
