Meet Teidah – A Quiet Survivor Learning to Trust Again 🐾💛

Teidah’s story is not loud or dramatic.

It is quiet. тяжелая. And deeply human.

She is a dog who survived – not just hardship, but long months of loneliness that changed her forever.

Teidah came to the “Big Heart” shelter near Kyiv in the spring of 2021. Before that, she lived in a small rural shelter with her siblings. It wasn’t a perfect life, but it was familiar. There was routine, there was someone who cared.

And then, suddenly, everything disappeared.

The owner of the shelter passed away, and the dogs were left completely alone.

No food.
No people.
No understanding of what had happened.

Teidah and the other dogs remained in an empty yard beside an abandoned house. For months, they survived on their own – frightened, confused, and forgotten. The world they once knew turned cold and silent overnight.

Teidah survived.

But something inside her changed.

Because of that experience, she lost her trust in people. She doesn’t understand human kindness. She doesn’t expect it. When someone tries to touch her, her body tenses, and her instinct is to run.

And yet – she is not aggressive.

Not even a little.

Teidah is calm, balanced, and incredibly gentle. She gets along peacefully with other animals and never seeks conflict. She simply chooses distance over fear.

When the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Teidah’s journey became even more difficult. She was evacuated from the shelter near Kyiv to our kennel closer to the Polish border, and later moved again to temporary paid housing.

Through everything, we did one thing – we kept her safe.

Today, Teidah lives in a place where she no longer has to fight to survive. But she is still waiting for something more.

She is waiting to feel safe not just in her environment – but in her heart.

Teidah is not an easy dog. She needs patience. Time. Understanding. She needs someone who won’t rush her, who won’t expect immediate trust, who will simply be there – quietly, consistently.

We don’t know if the perfect family for her exists.

But we do know one thing.

She deserves the chance.

Until that day comes, we will continue to care for her. To give her peace. To show her, little by little, that the world can be kind again.
