Our Animal Shelter Is at Risk of Closing – Help Save Over 30 Rescue Animals in Ukraine

Our Shelter Is Fighting to Stay Open — We Need Your Help.

Dear friends and supporters,

Today, we are reaching out with heavy hearts. Once again, our animal shelter is at risk of closing because we are running out of funds. Donations have slowed dramatically, and after paying our expenses for August, we will have almost nothing left to continue caring for the animals who depend on us.

It costs approximately $4,000 every month just to keep our shelter running. These funds cover food, veterinary care, medications, utilities, and the daily needs of every animal in our care. Without your support, we simply cannot continue this work.

For more than four years, Ukraine has lived under the constant threat of war. Our team, like millions of other Ukrainians, spends multiple nights each week listening to drones and explosions instead of sleeping. As the sound of approaching drones grows louder, all anyone can do is hope and pray that their home will not be the next target.

The war has taken an enormous toll on our country. Many men have been drafted, forced into hiding, or have lost their lives. As a result, much of the responsibility now falls on women, who continue rescuing abandoned animals despite the danger surrounding them every day.

Every single day we encounter dogs and cats that have been abandoned, injured, starving, or left to survive on the streets. People sometimes ask why we focus on helping animals instead of people. The truth is that every rescued animal is connected to a human story. Even stray animals often have someone who feeds and cares for them. Many Ukrainians choose to stay in dangerous areas because they know that if they leave, no one will remain to care for the animals they have been protecting.

Today, more than 30 animals call our shelter home. While that number may seem small, our mission has never been about rescuing as many animals as possible—it has always been about giving each one the care, rehabilitation, and love they deserve before finding them a forever family.

We regularly send our rescued dogs and cats to loving homes abroad. Every successful adoption creates space for another animal waiting desperately for a chance to be saved.

Some of our residents, however, will stay with us forever. Because of old age, chronic illnesses, disabilities, or behavioral challenges, they are unlikely to be adopted. For them, our shelter is the only home they will ever know, and we are committed to caring for them for the rest of their lives.
