Rest in peace, our dear Pavlo.

Hello Friends and Supporters- We are so incredibly sad to tell you all that our beloved, Pavlo, manager of our Zhytomyr kennel, member of our team and a dear friend to everyone who met him, died Wednesday. May 24th. We waited until after he was buried yesterday to make this heart-wrenching announcement.

Pavlo is dearly dearly missed by all of our team, his wife and the animals he dedicated his life to save. Pavlo made everyone feel better after seeing him. Pavlo was always willing to help and woke up at 5 am several times to transport dogs 1200km roundtrip if ever it was needed.

Pavlo was part of our team since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. He was the caretaker of our Zhytomyr kennel house where he and his wife took care of 53 cats and 34 dogs in our adoption program.

Pavlo lived very close to Zhytomyr highway where there was a tank strike during the invasion of Kyiv oblast. Many people died in their cars or near their cars and animals who were in the cars were wandering around. Pavlo and Margo went there daily to collect those animals.

Pavlo never said “No” when the most defenseless needed help. Rescuing animals is extremely difficult, especially for a person with a heart who empathizes and feels deeply. In the ocean of pain and hopelessness, when the heart is simply torn from the desire to help these defenseless and innocent creatures – it’s easy to drown- drown from hopelessness and inability to help everyone.

Even in the darkest time, Pavlo and Margo saved another soul. Just 2 days before Pavlo died he rescued a Shepherd dog. The dog had wandered into the village and was looking for help and protection, and walked into the yard of a woman who began to beat the dog with a stick and drive it away. Even though the dog did nothing wrong to her, she complained to the head of the village and she hired a man for a bottle of vodka, who kills animals.

Pavlo and Margo heard about this situation and miraculously arrived on time and snatched the dog from the hands of death. When they arrived for the dog, he was already in the barn- The killer man had also already arrived with a bag and a metal rod, with which he intended to beat the dog to death. But Pavlo came in time and actually ran away with the dog from the killer. Pavlo took the Shepherd to the house, where of course there wasn’t any place for new animals- they had more than 70 animals there. But Pavlo said, “what to do? It’s impossible to leave an innocent dog to die”. The dog is amazingly kind and gentle; he is at our kennel now, without Pavlo

Pavlo felt so much and that was his pain .

We hope now he is in peace although we miss him terribly.
