A City in Mourning: Kyiv Endures Another Night of Terror 🇺🇦🕯️

Today, Kyiv is united in grief.

The city has declared a Day of Mourning following one of the most devastating nights since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. What should have been an ordinary night became hours of fear, destruction, and unimaginable loss for thousands of innocent people. 🇺🇦🕯️

A massive wave of missiles and attack drones struck the capital, targeting residential neighborhoods where families were sleeping in their homes. Apartment buildings were torn apart, windows shattered across entire districts, and countless lives were changed forever in a matter of minutes.

According to the latest reports, at least 20 people were killed, while 86 others were injured. Tragically, those numbers may still rise as emergency crews continue working around the clock. More than 20 residential buildings suffered severe damage, with many collapsing or catching fire after the explosions.

For some families, there was no time to escape.

Rescue workers have spent countless hours searching through the rubble, carefully removing debris by hand and listening for any signs of life beneath the ruins. Every rescue brings hope, while every loss reminds us of the terrible human cost of this war.

As explosions echoed across the city, tens of thousands of residents rushed underground in search of safety. During the night, more than 52,500 people sheltered inside Kyiv’s metro stations—the highest number seen in recent years.

Children slept on station platforms wrapped in blankets. Parents held their sons and daughters tightly, trying to comfort them while the sound of explosions and air defense systems continued above. Elderly people, families with pets, and neighbors who had never met before found themselves sharing the same underground shelters, waiting together for the night to end.

For millions of Ukrainians, nights like these have become an exhausting reality. Every air raid siren brings uncertainty. Every explosion raises the same frightening question: Will everyone be alive by morning?

Yet even in the face of unimaginable hardship, the people of Kyiv continue to show remarkable courage, resilience, and compassion. Volunteers, emergency responders, medical teams, and ordinary citizens once again came together to help strangers, rescue survivors, donate blood, and support those who lost everything.

Today, we honor the lives that were taken, stand with the families who are grieving, and keep hoping for those who are still missing beneath the rubble.

May the victims rest in peace, the injured recover, and the rescuers stay safe as they continue their tireless work.

Kyiv mourns today—but it also stands strong. 🇺🇦🕯️
