Our Shelter Is Running Out of Time — 30+ Rescue Animals Need Your Help
Our shelter is once again facing the possibility of closing its doors. We have run out of funds, donations have slowed dramatically, and more than 30 rescued animals are depending on us for their food, safety, and care.
Please donate here: TransformAStreetDog.org/donate
We need approximately $4,000 every month just to keep our shelter running.
And after we pay our August bills, we will have almost nothing left.
This is a frightening situation for our small rescue team because the animals in our care have nowhere else to go.
They depend entirely on us.
For more than four years, our teammates and the people of Ukraine have been living through the unimaginable reality of war. Night after night, the sound of drones and explosions has become part of everyday life.
People try to sleep while listening for the sound of approaching drone engines.
They lie in their beds wondering whether the next explosion will be closer than the last one. They hope and pray that their homes, their families, and the people they love will make it through another night.
And while people are trying to survive, thousands of animals are struggling too.
Every day, we see animals that have been abandoned, injured, frightened, hungry, or left completely alone.
Some once belonged to families who could no longer care for them. Others have lived on the streets their entire lives. Many have nobody except the kind people who continue feeding them.
This is why we often hear the question:
“Why don’t you help people instead of animals?”
The answer is simple.
Animals and people are deeply connected.
Behind almost every street animal is a human story.
There are elderly people who cannot leave their homes without knowing that someone will feed the animals they care for. There are families who have been forced to leave their homes but worry desperately about the animals they had to leave behind.
Some people remain in dangerous places simply because they know that if they leave, there may be nobody left to care for the animals.
When we help an animal, we are often helping a person too.
And right now, we have more than 30 precious souls depending on us.
Thirty may not sound like a huge number compared with large shelters, but for our small rescue organization, every single animal represents a commitment.
Food.
Medication.
Veterinary treatment.
Safe shelter.
Warmth.
Daily care.
Love.
And sometimes months or even years of rehabilitation.
Our goal isn’t simply to rescue an animal from the street and put a roof over its head.
We want to give these animals a chance to heal.
A chance to learn to trust again.
A chance to experience kindness.
And, whenever possible, a chance to find a loving forever family.
We regularly help our rescued animals find homes abroad. Every time one of our dogs or cats leaves for a safe and loving family, it allows us to open space for another animal who is still suffering on the streets.
One adoption creates room for another rescue.
But not every animal is able to find a home.
Some of our residents have become permanent members of our rescue family.
They may be elderly. They may have chronic illnesses or disabilities. Some have behavioral challenges caused by years of trauma and neglect.
These animals may never be adopted.
But that doesn’t mean they are less deserving of love.
They still deserve food.
They still deserve medical care.
They still deserve a warm and safe place to sleep.
And they still deserve to wake up every morning knowing that someone cares about them.
We refuse to abandon them simply because they are difficult to place.
But we cannot continue doing this without your help.
Right now, our donations are coming in very slowly, while our expenses continue every single day.
The bills don’t stop.
The animals still need to eat.
Veterinary emergencies still happen.
Medicine still has to be purchased.
And the shelter still needs to remain open.
After paying our August expenses, we expect to have almost nothing left.
That is why we are asking our friends, supporters, and everyone who cares about animals to please help us keep our doors open.
🙏 If you are able to donate, even a small amount can make a difference.
A $5 donation may seem small, but many small donations together can help pay for food, medicine, and shelter.
If you cannot donate right now, please consider sharing this message. Your share may reach someone who can help.
These animals cannot ask for help themselves.
They cannot explain what they have survived.
They cannot understand why their world has become so dangerous.
They simply know that the people caring for them are their source of safety.
Please don’t let us run out of options.
Help us keep the shelter open.
Help us continue protecting the animals already in our care.
And help us remain able to rescue the next frightened, hungry, abandoned animal who desperately needs somewhere safe to go.
