Pet Travel Update: Dogs Can Now Fly to 6 US Airports

Exciting news for pet lovers and rescue organizations! 🐶✈️ The airlines have finally partially lifted the embargo, allowing dogs to fly into six airports in the United States. While this is a significant relief, it hasn’t been without its challenges. The CDC and airlines caused considerable confusion, making the process stressful for everyone involved.

However, there are a few important details to keep in mind. Out of the six airports now accepting pets, only three are compatible with flights from the EU. Additionally, there’s an extra step involved: before leaving the airport, dogs must have an appointment at the airport veterinary clinic to receive a rabies vaccination. This will, of course, come with additional costs, adding to the complexity and expense of the process.

While we’re relieved that it’s possible for dogs to fly again, we can’t help but express our frustration with how disorganized the airlines have been. They forced us into a rushed situation because importing dogs with a permit is no longer an option, and certain airports, like SFO, are no longer accepting dog imports from high-risk rabies countries.
