For weeks, we tried to help a homeless mom-cat who had hidden her newborns somewhere inside the roof of our shelter house. We even placed a crate outside, hoping she’d move them there. Dozens of cats came to eat — and we fed them all — but Naomi, the mother, never revealed her kittens.

Then, to our surprise, Naomi and other neighborhood cats discovered a secret way into our bathroom and storage room through the roof. Thankfully, that space is safe: the dogs can’t reach it, and Frodo — our resident dog there — is cat-friendly.

Finally, Naomi trusted us. She carried three tiny kittens into a shelf in the storage room, where we gently caught them and placed the family in a secure cage. But late that night, a faint cry echoed again. After searching everywhere, we found a fourth kitten. Now Naomi is safe with all four of her babies.

This miracle came at our most difficult moment. We have completely run out of funds and are borrowing at high interest just to feed and care for the animals. Every day we fear sinking into debts we can never escape.
