Anniversary of Borodyanka Rescue
Anniversary of Borodyanka Rescue
April 2 marked the somber anniversary of the Borodyanka rescue 🕯️, which occurred a year ago. After a grueling wait of FIVE WEEKS, volunteers finally reached the Borodyanka shelter just as the Russian soldiers left the occupied area. During the five weeks that the shelter was locked, there was no access to FOOD, WATER, or WORKERS. The dogs that were previously advertised on our website were left stranded in the shelter, and we feared for their safety. We had even informed the prospective adopters of Aisha, now known as Chelsea, that she was presumed dead. Luckily, Chelsea survived, but her puppy, Mia, was not as fortunate. Out of the 485 animals that were in the Borodyanka municipal shelter, only 150 survived. These survivors were in a pitiful state – dehydrated, emaciated, and fearful 😔.
We were able to take in and find secure placement for 12 Borodyanka survivors, including Chelsea. However, Bim (pictured on the left) is still in need of a loving home. Other survivors are being cared for by Remember Me (http://remembermefrance.org/pets/). Remarkably, some dogs who survived five weeks of starvation and despair are still awaiting adoption even after a year! If you are interested in adopting a Borodyanka survivor, please contact us.
