No Power, Freezing Winter - Our Shelter Needs Help Now

No Power, Freezing Winter - Our Shelter Needs Help Now

We never imagined we would have to write this again – but our shelter is still without electricity ‼️

For days now, we have been living and working in the dark after Russian attacks destroyed power plants across Ukraine. In the middle of a brutal winter, when temperatures in Kyiv have dropped to –15°C (5°F), there is no heat, no light, no hot water  – and no certainty about when power will be restored.

Inside the shelter, the cold is relentless. Walls freeze through. Water bowls turn to ice. Animals curl tightly together, trying to preserve warmth they don’t understand they’re losing. They don’t know what war is. They don’t know why the lights went out. They only feel the cold.

To keep both the animals and our team from freezing, we are running a generator around the clock. It is the only reason we are still functioning. But that lifeline comes at a terrifying cost: $86 every single day just for fuel. That’s over $2,500 a month – an amount that is simply impossible for us to sustain long-term.

And the situation around us keeps getting worse.

Missile and drone attacks continue at night, often triggering air raid sirens that send animals into panic. Emergency blackout schedules are in place across the city. Snow and ice are no longer being cleared. Public transport has stopped in some areas. Shops are closing. People are being told to leave Kyiv – but we cannot leave. Our animals have nowhere else to go.

Despite the exhaustion, despite the cold, our team keeps showing up every day. They work without heat, without comfort, often without rest, because walking away is not an option. These animals depend on us completely – and we refuse to abandon them.

Right now, we have a rare opportunity to survive this crisis with your help.
A generous supporter has pledged a $1,000 matching donation, which means every dollar donated will be doubled until we reach that goal. Your support right now truly goes twice as far.

This is not about comfort.
This is about survival.

Your donation helps us keep the generator running.
It helps us keep the animals warm.
It helps our team continue caring for them in conditions no one should have to endure.

🙏 If you are able, please support us now. Every contribution – no matter the size – makes a real difference in this emergency.

Thank you for standing with us when it matters most.
