When Winter and War Collide: Our Shelter Needs Help Now
When Winter and War Collide: Our Shelter Needs Help Now
During the night of Friday, January 9, Ukraine endured a massive combined aerial attack, with waves of drones and ballistic missiles striking cities across the country. Residential areas and critical infrastructure were hit, leaving at least four people dead and dozens injured, including medics and emergency responders.
As the attacks unfolded, temperatures in Kyiv plunged below β9Β°C (16Β°F), turning every power outage into a life-threatening situation. For many, the cold became as dangerous as the explosions.
At the same time, our shelter was flooding. While air raid sirens echoed outside, we were fighting another emergency inside β trying to calm terrified animals, move them away from rising water, and protect them from freezing temperatures, all at once π
Right now, we urgently need to repair our roof to keep the animals safe and warm.
