At the start of April, Lys’s life was hanging by a thread. Cold, drenched from endless rain, and starving, this young pup was found digging through a trash bin, chewing on plastic bags just to stay alive. Terrified by every sound, he almost got hit by a car. But that’s when everything began to change — all thanks to one kind soul.

Our rescue partner Yulia happened to spot him and knew she couldn’t leave him behind. She gently coaxed him to safety, gave him a warm place to sleep, fresh food, and the first kind touch he had probably ever known.

She named him Lys — and this was the start of his second chance. At just 11 months old, Lys had already lived through more fear and neglect than most dogs should ever face. But with Yulia’s care, he began to open up. He turned out to be an incredibly sweet and playful pup, full of gratitude, affection, and charm. He gets along beautifully with other animals, is learning quickly, and already waits to go outside to do his business.

But then, just two weeks after surgery, Lys suffered a severe heart attack.
