Shumka’s Journey: From Ukraine Stray Dog to Family Member

Shumka, a remarkable three-legged pup from Uman, Ukraine, just had a special moment – he was part of his owner’s wedding! 🎉 Huge congratulations to Alyssa Marey Cadiena, the stunning bride! 😍

Do you remember Shumka? He was once just another dog on the street, struggling to survive. Life was tough until he was hit by a car and lost his leg. After that, he spent years in an outdoor shelter, with little hope of ever finding a family. But thanks to our efforts to rescue street dogs, his story took a different turn.

His journey to a new life began when we brought him from Uman to Kyiv to join our program and live in a foster home. In 2021, he made the long trip from Ukraine to the USA, where he was adopted! Shumka was the last Ukraine stray dog we could bring to San Francisco before the CDC ban. He was incredibly lucky to find a family that loves and cares for him like their own child.

Now, this once-forgotten street dog puppy enjoys life in California, proving how much a little love and care can transform a dog’s life. From the streets of Ukraine to a family wedding – Shumka’s journey is nothing short of amazing! 💙🐾
