Overcoming Fear and Injury in the Midst of War

Overcoming Fear and Injury in the Midst of War

Hello, dear friends, supporters, and compassionate animal lovers! Today, we have a heartfelt and urgent story to share with you, about one of the most emotional and sensitive dogs in our care—a brave little soul named Bucks. Bucks is a sweet, but fearful boy who has already experienced the painful consequences of his deep-seated fear once before. Unfortunately, his journey has been filled with challenges that have tested both his body and spirit.

Let us take you back to the first time Bucks faced a life-threatening situation. During a previous bombardment in Kyiv, Bucks was overwhelmed with fear as the air filled with the terrifying sounds of explosions. His natural instinct was to run and hide, but in his desperate attempt to find a safe place, he tragically hurt himself. In his panic, Bucks’ paw got caught on a sharp spike, causing severe damage. He tore a tendon, which left him in excruciating pain. We acted as quickly as we could, rushing him to the hospital where the veterinarians worked hard to stitch up the wound. However, despite their efforts, the road to recovery was long and difficult for Bucks. His physical pain was matched by the emotional trauma he was already carrying, and the healing process was filled with ups and downs. 🥺😞

Now, as Kyiv faces yet another terrifying wave of attacks, with Shahed drones ominously hovering over our shelter, Bucks has found himself reliving the same horror all over again. Just a few days ago, Bucks had returned from what was meant to be a simple, peaceful walk. But the familiar, terrifying sounds of war erupted once more, sending him into another state of panic. Overcome with fear, he fled once again, trying desperately to escape the chaos. Sadly, in his frantic attempt to find safety, history repeated itself. Bucks stumbled upon another sharp spike, and this time, his injury was even more severe. His paw was once again badly hurt, and the damage was enough to require immediate medical attention.

Without hesitation, we rushed Bucks to the clinic where he underwent surgery to repair the damage to his paw. The operation was successful, and Bucks has since woken up from the anesthesia, but his emotional state remains fragile. He is still incredibly scared and on edge. His fear of the world around him makes every moment a challenge, and our hearts ache seeing him in such distress. Thankfully, one of our former shelter workers—someone Bucks has known for a long time and trusts—is staying by his side. This familiar presence is helping Bucks feel a little more secure in these overwhelming circumstances. 🙏

But friends, Bucks’ journey is not over yet, and we need your help to ensure that he can continue to heal, both physically and emotionally. The cost of Bucks’ surgery and treatment so far amounts to $360, which we currently owe to the clinic. However, there is a strong possibility that Bucks will need to stay longer for further treatment, especially given the severity of his injury and the delicate nature of his recovery. This means the costs could rise, and we are kindly asking for your support to help cover these expenses.

These are incredibly tough times for all of us, but together, we believe that we can help Bucks get back on his feet. Bucks has been through so much, and he deserves the chance to heal fully and live a life free from the fear and pain he has endured for so long. If you are able to contribute, no matter how small the amount, it would make a world of difference for Bucks. Your generosity will help ensure that he gets the continued care and attention he needs.

Thank you, dear friends, for your kindness, your compassion, and your unwavering support. It is because of people like you that we are able to provide dogs like Bucks with a second chance at life. Together, we can give him hope, healing, and the love he so desperately needs. ❤️
